Introduction

The Anticosti Basin is one of a number of Early Paleozoic basins that host Cambrian to Ordovician shelf and foreland basin rocks along the Appalachian trend of eastern North America. (Fig. 2) While extensive petroleum exploration and production activity has occurred along this prolific margin in the United States, including the Knox and Ellenburger basins in Tennessee and Texas, very little exploration has occurred in Western Newfoundland.
